Aviagen Latin America Puts Commitment to Social Sustainability into Practice

Company invests in music and athletics for young people in local communities

CAMPINAS, Brazil – Poultry genetics company Aviagen® Latin America continually looks for opportunities to demonstrate a commitment to social sustainability. That is the sole purpose of the Social Committee of Aviagen Brazil, which is currently focusing on social projects aimed at the future generation in the interior of São Paulo (SP). Among these are Caipira Music Workshops, Zaravi Trio, and Sports Education – all joint projects with Brazil’s Federal Law of Incentive to Culture. The Committee regularly selects non-profit organizations targeting worthy causes in education, health and social assistance, culture, sports and environmental sustainability.

Caipira Music Workshops

The music workshops focus on connecting today’s youth with the roots of the Caipira, which are traditional within the country. The Oficinas de Música Caipira holds free workshops in viola caipira, guitar, choir and musical performances, and according to cultural producer and general project coordinator Antoine Kolokathis, Aviagen’s support since 2017 is recognition of the valuable work they do. “This contribution demonstrates the size and importance of our work with community. In addition to the benefits that art, culture and musical practice offer our youth, the project helps foster an appreciation for authentic caipira music, which is one of the pillars of our culture.”

Zaravi Trio

“Zaravi Trio” is a form of classical music employing three musical instruments from medieval times: the zarb, the rabeca and the Brazilian viola. They have performed 9 concerts and 7 workshops in the southeastern Brazilian cities. “Through the sponsorship we will perform 11 concerts and 11 workshops. The sponsorship of Aviagen has been of great value shared to 2,200 people and our mission to teach and bring classical music to the population,” said project director João Dalga.

Educating through sports

“Educando Pelo Esporte,” a project based in Campinas and Rio Claro organizes after-school basketball, football, volleyball and other sports activities for children between ages 7 and 11, free of charge to participants. “Our mission is to promote social responsibility through athletics, improving the quality of life for children, building coordination and physical fitness, and teaching the value of team work and good sportsmanship. Support from Aviagen has been instrumental in helping us fulfill these goals,” commented project manager Daniel Pires.
